About Burritos and Barf Bags
Here’s the deal. I find it exceedingly bothersome (and comical, depending on how many decibels of BORING the blog is pumping out), that on recipe blogs you have to get through mountains of ramble about how the author’s day at work was incredibly stressful, or how it was his second cousin twice removed who inspired this recipe, or (for the five millionth time) how busy her family’s evening is between baseball practice and dance recitals and bathtime and the dog having an accident on the carpet, and that’s why she made this ’20-minute recipe'... all before reaching the punchline: The ingredients and instructions.
JUST! GIVE! ME! THE RECIPE!!!!!!!!!!
Or call it the “Aren’t you just dying to know how my child’s first day of school was?” blog. Not a recipe blog. And if I never read another recipe that instructs me to serve the meal with a few slices of 'crusty bread,' that will be too soon.
It is due to this hangry frustration that I decided I would have my own version of a food blog, a parody of all the recipe blogs out there that drive me crazy. It is a dialogue that showcases my two loves– travel and food– with stories of how they’ve collided in stomach-churning ways along the journeys on which I’ve been. The stories are in complete defiance of appropriate dinner-table (or food blog) conversation.
We’re not fooling ourselves here. This blog is about the storytelling, not the recipe you find buried at the end after your finger is sore from scrolling. But I do pride myself on finding some tasty dishes, so if you'd like to check out the recipes and give them a shot in your kitchen, be my guest.
Bon appetit!
Or... not. Either way, enjoy.
